In 1944 Kyungsung Precision Industry, the origin of Kia, is founded. In 1952 the Kia's first plant opened in Seoulin the company is renamed Kia Industries and the the Samchully, Korea's first bicycle is unveiled. In the 60’s the three wheeler K-360 and the T-600 started production. In 1974 the passenger car Brisa is unveiled. In the 80’sthe one ton diesel Bongo started production. In the late 80’s the Pride and the midsize Concord Sedan started production. From 1992 introduced the Sephia, Kia's first independently developed passenger car. A year later the Sportage is launched completes the 1993 Paris-Dakar Rally. In 1996 the Elan, Korea's first authentic sport car is launched. In 1998 Hyundai and Kia merged. In 2000 the Optima was launched. In2001Kia received the Korea Quality Award. In 2002 The Sorento is launched. In 2004 the new Sportage is launched, which received the Korea Color Design Award. and Kia ranks first in the Korea Service Quality Index. In the same year Kia receives the 7 Billion Export Tower Award. In 2005 the new Rio and the new Sedona are launched. In 2006 Kia is named the winner of Environmental Management Award. In 2008 The premium SUV Borrego is launched. In this year Kia Motors is named Car Company of the Year by Autocar and receives the Presidential Award for exceptional design management. In 2009 the Venga, a strategic model for Europe, receives the iF Design Award. In 2010 Kia's new midsize sedan Optima is unveiled along with several key new technologies. In 2013 four Kia cars received red dot Design Awards and Kia Motors is named 37th in Interbrand's list of 50 Best Global Green Brands 2013. Kia introduced the Kia Fragrance and the All New Soul. In 2014 the Soul EV becomes the first in the industry to be given Underwriters Laboratory's environmental validation. In 2015 introduced the K5 Hybrid 2nd Release of X-Car Series – Mystique. Kia takes first place in Auto Bild magazine’s Quality Report. In 2016 Kia to Unveil Optima Plug-in Hybrid, The Next Step in its 'green' Car Revolution. Kia Motors ranks highest among all popular brands in 2016 AutoPacific Vehicle Satisfaction Awards In 2017 Kia Niro Sets Guinness World Records™ Title for Lowest Fuel Consumption By A Hybrid Vehicle.
